LA Alumni Association Beautifying Entrance Of High School

The Livingston Academy Alumni Association is making an outdoor classroom for the high school.

The Overton County Board of Education approved the work Tuesday. Interim Director of Schools Donnie Holman said the beautified area will be centered around the flag pole at the school entrance.

“All the concrete is going to be stamped concrete,” Holman said. “And then, they even have in mind what type plants to go around the edge of this like crape myrtles and this and that. I think it will really add to the front of our high school.”

Holman said picnic tables and a stacked stone bench are also included in the plans. Holman said the work comes at no cost to the school system with the association paying for the project.

In other business, the Overton County Board of Education approved offering buyouts for all staff this year. Chairman Jarman Hicks said 17 employees were eligible this year, but only seven positions have expressed interest in the option. Two of those positions will be absorbed by the school system making for five possible buyouts at this time, Hicks said.

Hicks said the exact numbers and structure of the buyouts will be addressed while the school board creates its five year strategic plan.
