King Receives High Marks On Evaluation, Contract Extension From Putnam Board

The Putnam County School Board voted Thursday night to extend Director of Schools Corby King’s contract after he received excellent marks on his annual evaluation.

School Board Attorney Dan Rader said each board member evaluated King on 131 different criteria. Rader said 36 administrators in the school district turned in evaluations as well. Rader said King’s average evaluation grade was higher than last year, at 4.15 out of 5.

“I think one of the most important things to point out is, the highest rating he received was on integrity, fairness, and ethics, which of course, in education, if you can’t start there, you might as well not even start,” Rader said.

The board voted to bump King’s salary to $145,000 annually with the one-year extension.

“I’m humbled, honored,” King said. “I love the school system, the people that we work with, the students, and the families. I don’t make any bones about that. I don’t have anywhere I want to go. this is home.”

King said his kids are in the school system, he’s planted his roots in Putnam County, and that is where he intends to stay. King said he appreciates the opportunity to continue working with the group presently serving on the school board.

“We work well together, and we do push each other,” King said. “we do get better because of it and I just appreciate the opportunity to keep doing that.”
