Kendall Found Deceased; Murphy Arrested For Murder

Cookeville Police released the identities of an alleged shooter and victim Friday morning.

“At approximately 1:43 p.m. yesterday, the Cookeville Police Department received a telephone call reporting a man was lying in the street bleeding, upon officer’s arrival, 40-year-old Randall Kendall was found deceased,” Lt. Bobby Anderson said.

28-year-old Ricky Nathaniel Murphy was arrested and charged with first degree murder, Anderson said.

He remains in the Putnam County Jail on $3 million bond.

“Everyone’s safe, we believe this was an isolated incident, it wasn’t a random shooting in which the general public is in danger, so everyone can feel safe and carry on with their daily functions,” Anderson said.

Anderson said the Cookeville Police continue to investigate. Anyone who was in the Scenic Drive area Thursday between 1 and 2 p.m. is encouraged to call the Cookeville Police at 526-2125 or reach out to Det. Sgt. Tammy Goolsby at 520-5322.
