TDOT has selected Jones Bros. Contractors of Mt. Juliet to perform road improvement updates on Highway 56.
Spokeswoman Jennifer Flynn reports Jones Bros. submitted the lowest bid in June for $43.7 million before being awarded the contract last week.
Flynn said the contractors and state officials will meet for a pre-construction conference in the near future before work begins.
Phases one and two will widen Highway 56 from near the Warren-DeKalb County line to Smithville.
Phase two of the project includes the construction of a bulb-tee or concrete I-beam bridge, paving work, grading, and drainage work. The bridge will be located between the Warren-DeKalb County line and Magness Road in DeKalb County.
The total project will span just over eight miles with work to be completed on or before May 31, 2022.
