JCHS And JCMS Getting Resurfaced Parking Lots Through Grant Funding

Jackson County Middle School and Jackson County High School will get their parking lots resurfaced.

Director of Schools Kristy Brown said this work is possible through a $300,000 medical response grant. Brown said the caveat to the grant, is that in the future the schools could be used for a drive-thru to help with pandemic needs.

However, Brown said that long term planning addresses immediate needs.

“We’re looking at resurfacing the parking lots over there and doing some of the concrete work,” Brown said. “Putting some signage up and things like that, having the flow of traffic being clear and maybe some improvements there.”

Brown said getting this work complete gives the schools a fresh look and feel when guests or regulars pull into the schools. She said the next steps are preparing the details in order to obtain bids.

“We hope to put the projects out to bid and possibly by the November school board meeting,”Brown said. “Get the specifications and things like that in order and take our next steps from there.”

She said if it is needed, temporary parking will be provided at the schools and work should not affect bus lines or student pick-up.
