Jamestown officials are working with the state on the final legal details of liquor store applications.
During Monday’s City Council, Mayor Harvey Stowers said he has received lots of public interest about when liquor stores can come to the city.
“We have had a lot of concerns about the liquor,” Stowers said. “The liquor laws we are working on it. Waiting to hear from the state, trying to get some questions answered on what laws we need to be set in place before taking applications.”
Stowers said the finalized paperwork would be added to a meeting agenda for approval in the future.
The package store referendum passed by two votes in Jamestown with 335 votes for the issue and 333 against.
In other business, construction of a new Dollar Tree in Jamestown is set to begin this spring. Building Inspector Bradley Bowden said the new location is set for the corner of West Briar Avenue and North Main Street.
“I have been in contact with Chris, the contractor on the job,” Bowden said. “He said they are planning on starting sometime mid-March, early April and to be completed probably around the end of August, the first of September.”
