Jamestown, McMinnville Recieve TNECD Grants

Two Upper Cumberland cities will receive funding to help stimulate retail growth in the area.

Jamestown and McMinnville were selected as two of the 30 total recipients of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development’s Retail Academy Grant.

McMinnville was selected for Retail Academy 101, which is an introduction for local leaders to retail recruitment. Jamestown, a former recipient of Retail Academy 101, will now receive Retail Academy 201, offering advanced retail site selection training to communities.

The goal of the grant is to provide cities the resources and education necessary to grow retail in their respected areas, helping increase higher sales and property tax collections for the communities.

The grant has helped open retail establishments in 41 percent of the communities it serves, helping generate about $1.7 million in annual local tax revenue.
