Jackson To Open Flynn’s Creek Bridge Bids

Jackson County is set to open bids for work on its Flynn’s Creek Bridge Friday.

Engineer Kyle Hazel said the bridge was damaged in a flood event in March 2021. He said that after T-DOT evaluated the bridge, they came up with a plan of what work needs to be completed in order to get the bridge back open on Roy Brown Lane which has been closed to traffic since the flood.

“We’re going to be doing quite a bit of repair replacing one of the abutments 100 percent and the other one just slightly,” Hazel said. “And hopefully putting a brand new concrete deck on the bridge so making improvements there. ”

Hazel said that the funding agents will come from FEMA and T-DOT. He said that if those two approve the bid prices, they can award the bids, set up a pre-construction meeting, and begin work.

Hazel said that process typically takes about six to eight weeks.
