Jackson Stuff The Bus Event Kicks Off 4th Week

Jackson County’s “Share to Care Foundation” will host a stuff the bus event Friday.

The foundation donates school supplies for Jackson County students and teachers. Director Cassie Kessler said that the non-profit started two years ago and since has donated over $10,000 in school supplies to the Jackson County school district.

“We tend to not have a very high budget to provide all of the needs of the students and teachers,” Kessler said. “So the foundation is there to kind of collect and fill in the holes of what is needed in specific classrooms as well as for specific student needs.”

Kessler said the stuff the bus event is a yearly fundraiser usually done in the summer time. This year’s event will provide perfect timing as a lead-in to the Fourth of July fun.

“Our goal is to stuff the school bus full of supplies,” Kessler said. “So then we can take around to all the available schools and restock the rooms and provide necessities for the classrooms.”

Other items the foundation donates are hygiene products and clothes for students. Kessler said it is important for teachers to have what they need in order to teach students.

“Classrooms are a very sacred area,” Kessler said. “And so we just like to provide anything that a teacher would need.”

Kessler is also the owner of The Stolen Coin Oyster Bar & Bistro in Gainesboro. Kessler said that her business allowed her learn about the needs of the community.

“Feeding alot of the local people I found that was the biggest need in the community was helping the teachers and students,” Kessler said. “So I talked to a bunch of teachers and parents and staff and I found that was the best thing to develop for the community.”
