Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of getting two new K9 units.
Sheriff Marty Hinson said the two dogs will cost about $26,000 including training.
“The other two were just costing us money, one of them was,” Hinson said. “The other was reaching the age of retirement. So I decided to go ahead and retire both of them at the same time and buy two new ones to go on the road.”
Hinson said the two dogs Ozzy and Ziva will be given to their handlers, Wade Draper and Daniel Cummings. Commissioner Doug Stafford said that retiring the dogs releases the county of any responsibility of care for the K-9s.
Hinson said they have already received one K-9, and are working to hire the deputy that will handle the other.
