Jackson Schools Hoping To Create Safety Entranceways At Each School

Jackson County Schools approved putting school safety projects out for bid.

Director Kristy Brown said that the system gets a certain amount of “School Safety” grant funding each year. She said that they plan on using that money and moving up some additional funds to help in the project.

“Every school and our alternative school will be getting basically a safe entrance,” Brown said. “Where there is an area that parents or visitors can come to the school and sign in, and not just be able to go into the schools. So that will be an improvement to the schools.”

Maintenance Lead Josh Morgan said that the work will be pretty minor. He said that it will involve moving some doors and windows around in front offices to form the entranceways.

Brown said that the project has been one that she wanted to get done since she became director. She said that they are constantly working towards the recommendations based on their needs-assessment evaluations.

“I believe it was around $40,000 and we’ll be putting that with some other funds to be able to finish that out,” Brown said. “Obviously doing safe entrances at four schools is going to be a lot more than that, but anything that can go towards that is a good thing.”
