Jackson School System Sending Survey For Virtual Learning Options

The Jackson County School System is preparing to start outreach to gauge interest in virtual learning next school year.

Director of Schools Kristy Brown said that she wants to put out a survey about families intentions before meeting with the Board of Education in March. Brown said keeping options open is important when no one knows what the pandemic will look like this Fall.

“One of the concerns we have if there’s not a virtual option would be the impact on enrollment,” Brown said. “So, there’s some different things to consider with that and I hope to find out more information about how families feel about returning to school.”

During Thursday night’s work session, board members expressed concerns about losing students to home schooling or other districts that choose to provide a virtual option in the Fall. Brown said that parents and families can expect surveys to go out in the coming weeks, along with follow up phone calls.

“As long as the Coronavirus, if the numbers are good and infections are down and those type of things, that they’d be comfortable coming back,” Brown said. “So, just working with the families and seeing what the best options are that we can offer for them.”

The next Jackson County School Board meeting is scheduled for March 25. Brown’s guidance to the board of education at this time is to keep options open, while more information is gathered.
