The Charles Holland Library will undergo a bylaw review on Thursday to check for ways that the board could better guide library operations.
Library Director Melissa Gregory said bylaws are reviewed every few years. She said a committee will execute the review and present any tweaks to the board for approval. She said the board’s willingness to be introspective in its pursuit of moving the library forward speaks to the dedication of its members.
“It just sets forth how the board is made up, and how appointments are done, and who approves those appointments,” Gregory said. “And just gives a kind of direction for the board as to what they’re responsible for.”
Gregory said she looked over the current bylaws and believes everything looks to be in good working order. She said Jackson County library staff undergoes a policy review to sift through potential improvements to internal day-to-day functions.
“I think our library is almost a community center in itself,” Gregory said. “So I think it’s amazing that we have such great board members that want to be a part of that and continue to serve our community in that way.”
She said the seven-member Board of Trustees is made up of nominees appointed by the Jackson County Board of Commissioners. She said the bylaw review will in part center around assessing that structure.
“They just keep us on track and make sure that we are headed in the right direction and doing all of the things that we need to do for our community,” Gregory said.
The library celebrates its 55th birthday Saturday.
