Gainesboro’s Charles Ralph Holland Memorial Library will host an open house Friday to showoff the facility.
Director Melissa Gregory said the entire library has been rearranged since she began working there. Gregory said she hopes the event will encourage locals who are unfamiliar with the library to visit.
“This month is the anniversary of my first year as the director,” Gregory said. “And it’s also – we’re coming up on the fifty-fifth year of the library being here, and so it’s kind of – we’re doing it basically as an introduction to me and to show off the changes that I have made since I’ve been here.”
Gregory said the event will begin with a flag dedication for Charles Ralph Holland performed by the American Legion.
“I’m hoping that it’ll just, you know, bring our library to the forefront,” Gregory said. “A lot of people come in and say, ‘Well, we didn’t even know we had a library.’ So we just want to make sure everybody know we’re – knows we’re here and that, you know, we’re here to do – help in any way we can.”
Gregory said the the event will feature games, door prizes, and a silent auction fundraiser. She said the auction will feature three bags filled with different books, audio books, and library merchandise.
“We’ve partnered up with Gib-Flo Market here in Gainesboro and she’s made us up some merchandise to sell,” Gregory said. “T-shirts and tumblers and key chains and that kind of thing.”
Gregory said the idea for the auction came from the Friends of the Charles Ralph Holland Memorial Library after they received a $500 advocacy grant.
“It’s just to help make a fundraiser for our Friends group ’cause they help us with all of our programming, and our summer reading especially,” Gregory said.
The event takes place from 9:00am to 6:00pm Friday.
