Jackson County School Director Named To BEP Review Committee

Jackson County Director of Schools Kristy Brown has been selected for one of the subcommittees reviewing school funding.

Brown said she plans to go into the review well prepared to represent Jackson County.

“We’re going to meet a couple of times a month,” Brown said. “Maybe some online, they’ve asked for a commitment of about five hours or so a month. Any background work that we need to do or research or something like that would be on our own.”

18 subcommittees have been created, she will be a part of the group representing small and rural schools. The members of the state’s central steering committee will review input and feedback from the 18 subcommittees and the public on how to improve BEP funding of the nearly 30 year old system.

Brown said the plan is to meet until January while the review of BEP occurs.
