Jackson County Replacing EMS Office Roof

Jackson County has accepted a low bid of $27,240 to replace the roof of the EMS office in Gainesboro.

Jackson County Mayor Randy Heady said the North Murray Street building had some leaks and needed to be repaired. Heady said the roof replacement will provide a long-term solution.

“It’s been there twenty-something years maybe close to thirty now,” Heady said. “As you know over time things just wear out. The roof had worn out several years ago and we have tried to patch it and patch it and patch it and we just can’t patch it anymore so we are going to have to replace it.”

The county received just two bids. Heady said the roof replacement is part of the focus on infrastructure improvement that is included in this year’s budget.

“It’s time for us to just invest in the infrastructure we have,” Heady said. “You know, do some deferred maintenance and that’s what this is. We are going to be putting a new roof on the ambulance bay area and I’m excited that we got our bids in and starting it pretty soon.”

Heady said he was thrilled that the bid came in lower than what they budgeted for.

“This is something that we had put in the budget,” Heady said. “We had an estimate and of course, the estimate was plenty to cover what this is, so it’s good.”

Heady said he hopes the project start date has not been set. Heady said he believes that once started it would only take a week for the roof to be finished.
