A Jackson County man assaulted a deputy and fled to Putnam County before being arrested late Tuesday night.
Christopher Ballard pushed down a Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy, according to Captain Dennis Thrasher.
“He attempted to pull the deputy down into a creek, which the deputy was able to break away from,” Thrasher said. “Of course he took off on foot. The deputy is okay, he wound up with some scratches and such as those from going through the woods.”
The assault was near the Claude Loftis Road and Plunk Whitson Road area. Thrasher said the Tennessee Highway Patrol sent a helicopter and troopers. Putnam County Sheriff’s office dispatched K-9’s and some deputies. Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputies apprehended Ballard near the Pippen Road area.
“We greatly appreciate the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department assistance in…the wonderful job they did in coming out and supporting us, along with the Tennessee Highway Patrol,” Thrasher said.
Ballard is held at the Jackson County Jail on a $30,000 bond. He was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine, driving on a revoked license, resisting arrest, aggravated assault, and other outstanding charges.
