Jackson Co. Schools Sets Official Weeks For Breaks

Jackson County Schools has designated official weeks for fall and spring break moving forward with future school calendars.

Director Kristy Brown said Fall Break schedules begin the second Monday of October of each school year and Spring Break will begin the second Monday of March each year.

“That would be a good thing to go ahead and pursue and chose some weeks for that to be the normal weeks that we have each year,” Brown said. “And thought that our community and our parents would appreciate that for planning purposes.”

Brown said the calendar committee did a teacher collaboration in May and decided to move forward with this plan. She said the weeks the committee chose line up with the system’s usual breaks as well.

Brown said the breaks will be implemented starting next school year. She said the breaks are susceptible to change should there be a need from the state or the community.

“We want to get feedback on that and hopefully it goes well but we can always reconvene and do a different plan or go back to how it was if it’s not working,” Brown said. “We’ve discussed this before and we were able to move forward with it at this time, and hopefully it works out for everyone.”

Brown said this year’s spring break happens to line up with the planned breaks.
