Jackson Co Director Of Schools Kristy Brown Takes Job With State

Jackson County Director of Schools Kristy Brown is leaving.

Brown will be taking a job as the Chief Academic Officer at the Tennessee Department of Education beginning July 15th. Brown’s responsibilities will include instructional strategy, early learning, special education, and career and technical education.

Brown took the opportunity to thank the board and the school system Thursday for the work they have done with her over her time as Director.

“I just wanted to tell you I appreciate y’all for believing in me and the work that we are doing to serve kids here,” Brown said. “And I also wanted to say that there are the right people in the right places in this school system to serve our kids really well.”

Brown said she is proud of what the school system has been able to accomplish in the four and a half years she served as director. She said it took a team effort and she is humbled and honored to have been a part of it.

“Our schools are in better shape, they’re safer, they’re cleaner, they’re more up to date than they’ve ever been,” Brown said. “Our kids have had steady gains in academics every year over the last three or four years.”

Brown said as Chief Academic Officer she will still be able to serve students in Jackson County, as she serves students in the entire state. She said she will always consider Jackson County home.

“I couldn’t have had this opportunity to come up without the opportunity I’ve had here, and you all believing in me and my vision,” Brown said.

Brown has been the Director of Schools in Jackson County since 2018. Before then she was Principle of Jackson County High School.
