The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce received the revamped engineering plans for it’s new amphitheater this week.
Debbie Kinnaird said the bidding process for construction can now move forward.
“We are ready to break ground just as soon as we can get through the bidding process, but of course, that will be up to the contractor,” Kinnaird said. “We do have to have the project completed by the end of the year.”
A $48,000 state grant will play for the new facility, which will be located a block off the town square and have the capability of seating about 100 people.
The first part of the project will involve the concrete that will form the amphitheater. Following the concrete, attention will turn to building the stage and equipping the facility with the proper sound system.
Kinnaird said the original plans for the amphitheater needed to be tweaked.
“We needed to address some drainage problems and things that would affect the neighbors beside of us,” Kinnaird said.
Cost-cutting measures also had to be taken to better fit the budget, she said.
“Basically we took the stage from being up top to bringing it down level with the ground, which cut quite a bit of cost out,” Kinnaird said. “We also moved the bathrooms from under the stage to the top part of the amphitheater.”
This is phase one of the project.
