Jackson BOE Approves Updated Teacher-Administration Memorandum Of Understanding

Jackson County School Board approved the school system’s new memorandum of understanding Thursday night.

Director of Schools Kristy Brown said that the process occurs every three years and updates the agreements between administration and teachers. She said that this year’s process went smoothly and resulted in some great wins for teachers.

“We were able to update some of the pay rates for different committees and some of the extra work teachers do in our district,” Brown said. “And we’re happy to be able to do. And we just updated some of the language and things like that in there.”

One of the major changes is the pay for teacher work days. Brown said for years the pay was $75 for a 7.5-hour work day. She said that because most after-school activities now pay about $20 an hour, they’ve doubled the work day pay to reflect that.

Brown said another change comes from the supplemental pay for insurance checks. She said teachers will still get $100, but it will be applied to their monthly checks to streamline the process.

Brown said they also updated planning periods.
