Isringhausen: Tech VB Overcoming Adversity

Coming off her fifth OVC Player of the Week honor of the season, senior outside hitter Maddie Isringhausen said the Golden Eagles’ energy and confidence will be key in this weekend’s matches with Little Rock.

Tech improved to 16-4 last week with a crucial win on the road at Eastern Illinois snapping a three game losing streak. Isringhausen said getting through that rough patch showed this team a lot about who they are moving forward.

“I have a lot of confidence,” Isringhausen said. “I think at the end of the day, losing three games is tough, but I think our team has responded really well. And we’re a very competitive bunch, we’re a very energetic bunch on the court. So, I know for a fact that if we come out confident with the energy we have, that we’ll be just fine this weekend.”

Isringhausen said incoming Little Rock is a great team that plays a different style of volleyball than Tech. She noted that they are a “shotty” team that will overwhelm opponents defenses with shots coming from weird spots and angles, but will also swing big around the net.

“For the most part, we want to focus on our defense and being really gritty and then our offense can work around that,” Isringhausen said. “I think at the end of the day, we just really need to focus on our play. When we are at our peak play, I think we have an unstoppable force of an offense.”

This season Isringhausen has 336 kills and a kill percentage of .282. She said setter Jordan Karlen does a great job of sharing the ball with everyone and making her job easier.

In her fifth season with the program, Isringhausen said it was a goal to earn her first OVC Player of the Week honor. And with still a few weeks left this season, she has the chance to break a school record for most “Of The Week” honors.

“I’m really thankful for this group and these coaches and this program,” Isringhausen said. “I stayed here all five years, I never planned on leaving, so I’m just really thankful they have confidence in me as a person, but as a player as well.”
