The coronavirus fight will delay interviews with candidates for the Putnam County Director of Schools.
Putnam County School Board Chair Dr. Dawn Fry said the plan is to still have a new director named by the end of the school year.
“The remainder of the board is hopeful that we can still have our person named to that position at the May 1st board meeting,” Fry said. ” We are going to go in that direction to do that, but obviously, we may have to go to another plan should things become different in the country.”
Fry said the search committee is still reviewing applicants and are prepared to conduct interviews online if needed.
“The committee is still working on grading or looking at the applications we have received,” Fry said. “They have a rubric that they are scoring each one of those applicants, and then, they will send us the three top scoring.”
A total of 20 applicants applied for the position with the majority coming from out-of-state. The new director will replace Jerry Boyd who stepped down earlier this winter.
“We’re looking for someone who has leadership experience and has the ability,” Fry said. “We would specifically like that to be in a school system in the past, and of course, have a successful record in doing so.”
Other qualities the school board is looking for, Fry said, include academic success and working well with others.
