Cumberland County Chancery Court has approved the demolition of the Inn of the Cumberlands.
Crossville City Attorney Will Ridley gave an update on the issue during this week’s council meeting.
“We have an order allowing us to proceed on that,” Riley said. “However, I’m not asking you to vote on that tonight because I’m pursuing some other issues so we can have some more concrete numbers for that to put it out to bid.”
The city of Crossville condemned the inn two years ago after the owners failed to address several code violations.
Earlier this year the city voted to file a lawsuit after giving the owners several chances to pay off taxes on the property.
In January, Ridley warned the council that it was not a property the city would make its money back on.
“This will be a property that the city is paying to demolish and we will likely not recover those funds because there is so much taxes owed to the city and county that will have to be paid first, which are priority liens.”
Ridley said about $60,000 to $70,000 in back taxes is owed on the property and demolition of the building would cost about $100,000.
