Next week, residents can swap out their license plates for new ones stating “in God we trust.”
The plates were made possible by a bill sponsored by Sen. Paul Bailey. That bill becomes effective July 1.
Putnam County Clerk Wayne Nabors said he likes the design.
“It’s going to say over and below the Tennessee insignia, at the top, over, it says ‘in God’ and below it says ‘we trust,’ that’s going to be right in the dead center of the plate, looks pretty cool,” Nabors said.
There will be some fees to get the plate.
“We’ll swap with you and we collect the difference in fees because the date of issuance will be different than what you have and in that initial swap there will be an extra $2 charge on the first round,” Nabors said.
A regular renewal fee will be charged the following year, Nabors said.
