A traffic signal for the I-40/Highway 111 interchange won’t happen until at least 2019.
TDOT spokesman Jennifer Flynn said the estimated date to open bids for the project is now May 2019. The traffic light can’t be installed until a bid is opened and accepted by TDOT.
This spring, designers added a right-hand turn lane on the I-40 westbound off-ramp, Flynn said. That will prevent traffic from backing up onto I-40, Flynn said.
The whole interchange will also need to be paved, which added to the costs, she said.
Both the new lane and the paving were added in the development process. Flynn said she didn’t know the estimated costs of the signal and related work, because the new lane and paving were added.
Last spring, Flynn said the agency hoped to open bids in Fall 2018.
