Emergency officials report Interstate 40 in Monterey has become a sheet of ice in many areas after evening snow.
An incident happened at mile marker 298 eastbound, which has shutdown the interstate as of 9pm Monday night. That accident involved multiple vehicles, according to emergency officials.
The burst of snow left many lawns covered across many areas, combining with falling temperatures, likely caused the quick icing on Interstate 40. First reports came in around 8:15pm Monday night. The issues are likely being repeated on roadways in higher elevations of the Upper Cumberland.
The National Weather Service in Nashville reports the back end of the precipitation arriving now with the rest of the night seeing temperatures drop into the teens.
