HVAC Upgrades In Design For Sycamore

Design phase underway for a project to install new HVAC units at Sycamore Elementary.

Putnam County Deputy Director Of Schools Tim Martin said the school’s rooftop units have become noticeably less efficient over time. Martin said the system’s controls have also aged to the point that they cannot receive any more software updates.

“I think they’ll notice that, probably a more even air in the building,” Martin said. “So instead of it just being really cold and then it gets really hot and goes back and forth when you have those really hot days, you’ll see it just a lot more even.”

Martin said his goal is to get the project done by the time school starts next year. Martin said they will get exact details after the bidding process is complete but most of the work should be possible while school is in session.

“We may have some effect where we might have to move a classroom around here or there,” Martin said. “But generally speaking we can do that work while kids are in school.”

Martin said this is one of the next projects in their long-range plans and was added to the list after they saw the system’s efficiency starting to decline.

“If I wait until equipment completely breaks down then that means that I have kids in school and teachers in school without air conditioning and I don’t know what point of (the) year it is,” Martin said.
