High Schools are welcoming back fans to their gymnasiums as the Upper Cumberland basketball season returns.
White County Athletic Director Terry Crain said the boys and girls team return to Sparta tonight for the season’s first doubleheader.
“White County gymnasium, Roy Sewell Gymnasium, is a gymnasium that was built for spectators,” Crain said. “It is a spectator gym, and we miss the fans. The players have and the excitement, so it’s great to have them back.”
Upperman Athletic Director Ross Fanning said basketball returns to Baxter this Tuesday. Fanning said Upperman will follow TSSAA guidelines with face coverings encouraged.
“We have the best fans over here at Upperman,” Fanning said. “So, we’re just excited to have a packed house every night like it used to be and just have big crowds and just get that home court advantage like we have in the past.”
Crain said White County High School will host games with full capacity and pre-COVID guidelines. Crain said last year, the program lost most of its revenue due to COVID, so the return of ticket sales is welcomed.
“I think the fans themselves are anxious to get back in the gym, and we’re anxious for them to come back,” Crain said. “That support and the players are excited about their family members.”
Fanning said he does not think Upperman will have an issue with ticket sales. Fanning said he anticipates the community to fill the stands to cheer on the Bees.
