How To Stay Organized While You’re At Home

Many people have been practicing social distancing, which can be a blessing or a curse in your home.

Clutterfly & Company Professional Organizer Karen Phillips said if you’re working from home, create a specific working space.

“Look and see what distracts you and kinda set it up as if you were going into the office. If your home office is a home office/toy room/storage room, then you may want to take a little bit of time just to set it up so you’re not looking at forty things that you really need to do but you don’t have time to do it right now even though you’re home,” Phillips said.

Organizing isn’t as complicated as it might seem. Phillips said people think you need special boxes and totes to keep things organized but it depends on what your style is.

Setting time aside every week to plan out the next few days is invaluable, Phillips added.

“Take a look at things that maybe have piled up, if you can set aside, you know, from 2 o’clock to 3 o’clock every Sunday, the family is going to go through what’s been piled up all week and make sure it gets back to it’s home place in your house,” Phillips said.

Phillips also suggests a ‘pantry challenge’ that involves going through all your pantry food. After throwing out what is expired, plan how to cook your meals with what’s in the pantry.

For over 25 years Phillips has been an organization manager. Her company is located in Kingsport.
