Avoid weight gain from boredom or emotional eating through mindful meal planning.
Break Thru Nutrition Dietitian Kelsey Higgins, who offers telemedicine services to the Upper Cumberland, said be mindful with your meals.
“Taking slow bites, sitting at the table, trying not to eat on the couch or in front of the television, and try to be as present as you can at the moment. If you are going to have snacks throughout the day try to stock the pantry with healthier items,” Higgins said.
Frozen and canned foods are just as healthy and nutritious as fresh produce. Higgins said choose options with less sodium and choose healthier food options.
In addition to watching what you eat, hydration is important. Higgins said women should drink at least 9 8-oz cups a day, and men should drink at least 12.
“A lot of time at home people just kind of forget to sip on water throughout the day, and that can lead to dehydration and just feeling tired and groggy overall. Always keeping a water bottle with you throughout the day and keeping that filled up to stay hydrated,” Higgins said.
Higgins suggests to keep your freezer stocked up and contact your grocery store to see what they have available and truck delivery times.
