Home Repair Grants Open For Cumberland, Fentress Veteran Home Owners

Veterans that own a home in Cumberland or Fentress County may be eligible for home repairs through a grant program.

A Crossville Low-Income Housing non-profit called Creative Compassion is administering the funds. Deputy Director Mark Baldwin said up to $7,500 can be awarded for non cosmetic upgrades.

“We’re always grateful for their service to our country, and so, we always want to do what we can to help those folks out,” Baldwin said. “We do sometimes struggle to award this money, because veterans tend to be reluctant to ask for help. But, we encourage any of them to please reach out.”

Baldwin said wheelchair ramps, roof work or HVAC replacements are examples of eligible projects. Baldwin said the grant program comes from a national non-profit called Housing Assistance Council and the Home Depot Foundation.

Baldwin said Cumberland and Fentress County was the focus area since the organization is based in Crossville. Baldwin said applications can be mailed or found online. low-income veterans can learn more by calling (931)-456-6654.
