Helicopter Helps Locate Man Wanted For Assault and Kidnapping

Putnam County authorities have arrested a man who allegedly attempted aggravated assault and kidnapping of his girlfriend this morning.

Sheriff Eddie Farris said Hernandez was apprehended due to the efforts made by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol and FBI.

After an extensive ground search by Sheriff’s Office Deputies and several canines, Major Whittaker summoned the assistance of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and their helicopter from Nashville due to the vast rural area that is heavily wooded.

Once on the scene, Sheriff Farris accompanied the THP pilot in the air and attempted to locate both the subject and the victim. After a short period of time, Sheriff Farris was able to spot the subject from the air, and with the assistance of THP they were able to land the helicopter and immediately take the subject into custody.

According to Sheriff Eddie Farris, At approximately 6:44 am a 911 call came in to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office regarding an incident at Hilham Highway and near Highway 293.

Upon a preliminary investigation, officers discovered that Enrique Hernandez attempted to commit aggravated assault and kidnapping against his 25-year-old girlfriend Daisy Gonzalez.

Authorities said Hernandez was arrested in Overton County on June 23rd for domestic assault against Gonzalez.

Hernandez id charged with violation of bond condition, two counts of aggravated assault, and aggravated kidnapping. His bond is set at $265,000.
