Hermitage Springs School Establishes PTO

Hermitage Springs School will now have an official Parent-Teacher Organization.

Clay County School Board Chair Benji Bailey said there had been a nonprofit that helped support student and school functions over the last few years. He said with recent state laws enacted over the last few years, it was determined that it would be a better fit to have an official, state-approved PTO going forward.

“Establish themselves separately from the community organization and that way they can be more directly involved with the school and school activities,” Bailey said. “And operate in a way and manner that’s consistent with state law currently.”

Bailey said a group of parents has been working to get the necessary paperwork and state approval. He said this is the only official and active PTO in the school system.

“So everyone is kind of on the same footing, everyone will understand what needs to be done,” Bailey said. “An open line of communication is very important and more streamlined so now our principals will have one source of help there that they can go to and talk and be able to support both our faculty and our students most importantly.”
