Hedgecough Announces Bid For State Senate

There’s some competition for the state’s 15th Senatorial seat.

Republican Paul Bailey will be going up against Democrat and Jackson County native Angela Hedgecough. Hedgecough announced her decision today and said it wasn’t an easy one to make, but something she felt like she needed to do.

“We need people with common sense and compassion in office, which I think we are lacking that right now,” Hedgecough said. “I’ve been really active since the beginning of this year and if we are going to get people into office to change things then people are going to have to step up and do this.”

Hedgecough said her main focus will be on schools, jobs, and healthcare. She believes her background as a small business owner will help her be a leader on those fronts.

“We need to make sure the Medicaid expansion rolls out for the people who make less than $12,000 a year because right now there is no help for them,” Hedgecough said. “As far as creating jobs, I know what it takes to to operate a small business and the more we support small business and help them grow the more people they can hire. There’s not a lot out there to help them.”

Hedgecough co-owns Hedgecough Wrecker with her husband and she previously served as a corrections officer in the state of Georgia. She is the mother of two children and the grandmother of three.
