Nashville-based HCA Healthcare has purchased the former hotel/convention center site in downtown Cookeville.
The nearly five-acre site adjacent to the Cookeville Depot was sold for $3.6 million this month, according to county real estate records.
Developers had worked with the city on tax incentives several years ago to turn the former Wilson site into a hotel and convention center. Those plans fell through, but developers maintained they had other plans for the land. The leaders of Auxin, LLC, the developer of the project, refused to speculate on what might happen with the project.
HCA operates 182 hospitals and some 2,300 site care centers. The Tri Star family of hospitals serves Nashville and surrounding communities including Dickson, Hendersville, and Smyrna. HCA also operates the Parkridge Hospital system in Chattanooga.
HCA also operates a surgery center in Clarksville as well as several surgery centers in Nashville.
The land sits at 9 South Cedar Avenue and 39 Depot Street. HCA has been reached for comment, but is yet to respond.
