Livingston Mayor Curtis Hayes said the city will open its police chief position to outside candidates in the future.
Former Police Captain Ray Smith was appointed as interim chief following Greg Etheredge’s resignation Saturday. Hayes said interim positions usually serve three to six weeks.
“We’ll start a process of advertising and certainly Mr. Smith will be eligible to apply for that, and we’ll go from there,” Hayes said. “The time of the process I am not really sure, but there will be a process, and it will be open to all.”
Hayes said the Board of Aldermen will be involved in the interview process. Hayes said they will have the final decision on who is hired.
“What normally happens is I can get all the paperwork done, but the Board of Aldermen will be the ones that have to hire the police chief,” Hayes said.
