Hayes Beginning Work With Burnett On Transition

The transition process has begun to prepare Livingston Mayor-Elect Lori Elder-Burnett to take office September 1.

Mayor Curtis Hayes said he and Burnett have been meeting for several hours a week since she was elected in June. He said he has been reminding Burnett that she may not get everything overnight, she has great staffers, advisors, and consultants to lean on in the meantime.

“We’re just having conversations,” Hayes said. “There’s a lot of questions, and gladly so. If there wasn’t a lot of questions, we’d have, I’d be scratching my head, but transition period is going really, really well.”

Hayes said, meantime, the work continues as normal across the city. Hayes said in addition to the quality long-term staff in place, Burnett has MTAS as a resource and Hayes is a phone call away.

“That’s one of the things I like about Lori,” Hayes said. “I think you don’t have to worry about any knee-jerk decisions with Mayor-Elect Burnett and she will learn the job and let the job come to her, and I truly believe she’ll do an outstanding job.

Hayes said he believes Burnett will do a phenomenal job.
