Bikers and jeep riders across the area gathered in Silver Point for the ‘Harrington for Hope’ fundraising event Saturday.
Cookeville Police Lieutenant Mitch Harrington said the event helps raise money for child burn survivors. Harrington got the idea after his neighbors helped him when he suffered life-threatening burns in a house fire nearly two years ago.
“All my friends and a lot of my neighbors did a fundraiser for me,” Harrington said. “I can’t pay that back, so this is my way of paying it forward and doing something to help my community.”
Harrington was thankful to get the event underway after severe weather moved through the area Friday evening and Saturday morning.
“There’s a lot going on and we’ve been working on this for weeks,” Harrington said. “Thank the good Lord the weather has cooperated with us this morning. We’re fixing to go out and have a very nice motorcycle and jeep ride.”
The ride began at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at The Docks Sports Bar and Grill. Riders will travel through Center Hill Dam, Smithville, Gordonsville, and Carthage.
Proceeds raised from the event will benefit Vanderbilt’s Camp Hope, which is dedicated to helping children once admitted to burn centers. Proceeds will help pay admission fees for children and teens ages six to 16.
Riders will return to The Docks around 2 p.m. when Brother Rains will perform live music. Auction items will also be available in between music breaks throughout the afternoon into the evening hours.
