Philip Hall, owner of Hall Family Pharmacy in Jamestown, has been recognized by the American Pharmacists Association Foundation as its pharmacist of the year.
Hall called the honor as humbling.
“Whenever we came into our market our market was plagued with prescription drug abuse,” Hall said. “So, we immediately came in and wanted to be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem.”
Hall said when his first pharmacy opened in 2014, 27 percent of drugs purchased by pharmacies in Fentress County were narcotics or controlled substances. Hall said Hall Family Pharmacy has decreased its number to just five percent.
“Through a lot of hard work and collaborating with physicians and just identifying factors that were not right is the only way to say it,” Hall said. “(…) We feel very proud of that number and we work very hard to maintain that number.”
The Hubert H Humphrey National Independent Pharmacist of the Year award is given to pharmacists for leadership and community service. Hall will be honored in Orlando, Florida on February 26th.
Hall opened his second location in 2015. Hall said he wants to establish two more stores in the next five years. Hall said as a healthcare provider, making his community safe has always been a top priority.
“My goal was always to come back home and work in Fentress County and the Upper Cumberland,” Hall said.
