Great American Cleanup Begins Keeping Putnam Communities And Environment Beautiful

The Great American Cleanup begins this Tuesday encouraging community members to do their part against litter.

The Cookeville-Putnam County Clean Commission is an affiliate of the organizer Keep America Beautiful. Chapter President Lisa Luck said you can participate in your own neighborhood or join a scheduled cleanup. It doesn’t matter as long as you are picking up litter.

“Usually by March, there is so much litter on the ground, because of the bad weather most places have in January and February,” Luck said. “This cleanup is scheduled to just get everybody outside and working together to clean up littler.”

Luck said the scheduled cleanups will happen until June. The first one will be a little before the three-month period begins.

“You can just show up,” Luck said. “All supplies will be provided, but also provided are cleaning supplies if you want to clean your neighborhood and get your neighbors involved, we can provide supplies for that.”

Luck said picking up litter is important in many aspects. Luck said when you have trash on the ground property values drop, tourists turn away and the environment deteriorates. Luck said taking a few hours one weekend to cleanup can make a real difference.

Luck said to get supplies or schedule your own cleanup, call (931) 537-3278 or (931) 261-7841. You can also visit www.cleancommission.com for upcoming cleaning events.
