A Putnam County grand jury has indicted 15 people for their alleged involvement in a meth distribution organization.
District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway said the investigation targeted meth sellers in multiple Upper Cumberland counties.
“The effort that has culminated in the taking of 15 drug sellers off the street makes our community safer,” Dunaway said. “Methamphetamine remains an evil that continues to be brought into our community. Meth causes pain, addiction, and death. These law enforcement partners will continue to be diligent to protect our community.”
Local and state law enforcement officials announced the indictments during a Tuesday press conference at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. TBI Director David Rausch said the announcement takes law enforcement a step forward in their efforts to combat methamphetamine in rural communities.
“Our focus from the TBI and with our partners is to get into these communities and work to root out those evils that are pushing this drug,” Rausch said. “It is devastating to our communities and families and we’ve got to do everything that we can. Today’s announcement of the indictments will hinder those operations in these communities.”
A press release said law enforcement began investigating the distribution organization nearly one year ago. Officers conducted multiple undercover purchases and executed search warrants, resulting in the seizure of approximately eight kilograms of meth, several weapons and vehicles, and a large quantity of U.S. currency.
