Governor’s Executive Order Eases Efforts To Feed Livestock

The ice and snow lingering across Tennessee have made feeding and transporting livestock a challenge.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has issued an executive order to ease some restrictions for movement of livestock feed and live poultry to market.

Federal restrictions on hours of service for feed and live animal transportation will be waived through the end of January. This order allows haulers to drive extended hours, as long as all other safety and licensing requirements are met.

Poultry and cattle are among Tennessee’s top agricultural commodities, surpassed only by soybeans. Those three agriculture sectors accounted for nearly $1.8 billion in cash receipts in 2016.
