The newest members of the Crossville City Council took the oath of office Monday night.
Councilman Art Gernt said he chose to run for office so he could get off the sidelines and better serve his community.
“I’ve been involved with out community for about 27-years and I think being involved in the city council gives me the ability to do so much more for our community,” Gernt said. “I think decisions we make can be lasting and help our community to grow and be a better place to live.”
Gernt and Rob Harrison will join Scott Shanks and J.H. Graham on the city council. Gernt and Harrison have never ran for public office before.
Harrison said there’s been a learning curve as he’s prepared for his new position
“Running for office is like having a second job and you just can’t ever spend enough time,” Harrison said. “It’s a steep learning curve, but we’ll make it.”
James Mayberry also took the oath of office to begin serving his second term at Crossville Mayor.
Mayberry said he’s excited about the opportunity to work with a new city council.
“We’re on the same wave length and have the same ideas to move forward and advance the community,” Mayberry said.
The new Crossville City Council will hold a work session Tuesday night at 5:00 p.m.
