Putnam Director of Schools Jerry Boyd hopes some environmental testing will come back sooner than predicted.
At the end of June, the Board of Education told Boyd to move forward on geological testing on a 45-acre property on Lee Seminary Road, near the Highlands Business Park.
“We are in the process of getting geotesting to decide if it’s suitable for construction of a school,” Boyd said.
Boyd said the board approved a 90-day plan to perform the geotesting, but he hopes it will be back in 60 days. The information contained in the report will be key.
“So that we can be fully informed and the board can make a decision about the next step as far as if we need to purchase the land for future use,” Boyd said.
Originally, the board had talked about selling the current Park View Elementary property to the city of Cookeville to construct a new police station. The city has moved forward with testing on a different property.
