Gainesboro Aldermen have decided to use its $257,000 of ARP money for revenue loss and payroll.
Mayor Lloyd Williams said the town however did not actually have a loss in revenue. But, funding stipulations allow up $10 million to be pocketed into the general fund.
“We have plenty of stuff to spend it on,” Williams said. “We are looking at buying a new backhoe, some equipment for the guys. They are kind of working with outdated equipment, so we’ll probably spend most of it just on equipment.”
Williams said as a rural community, the extra money goes a long way. Williams said the town usually cannot afford new equipment and often has to purchase used gear.
