Gainesboro To Hire Public Works Supervisor

Gainesboro accepting applications to fill a supervisor position for the Public Works Department.

The position became vacant after previous supervisor Chester Hamlet retired. Gainesboro Town Recorder Darla Pippin said a local candidate would be ideal, but the town will not rule out hiring someone outside.

“I mean it’s not a qualification for the job,” Pippin said. “But I mean that would be nice because when they do have a water leak or something they are going to have to be called out to come and help with the water leaks or whatever, or any kind of town emergency situation.”

Applications will be accepted until August 9. Pippin said the town does not have an interim supervisor and the department will carry on without one until the position is filled.

“The streets and the water distribution guys they know what their job duties are,” Pippin said. “So they are just going about their daily job duties.”

Pippin said the town has not received any applicants so far. Pippin said officials hope to receive applications by the deadline but they are already preparing for the case in which they don’t receive any.

“We would probably either have to run it again or maybe do something in an emergency situation where we would just have to hire someone,” Pippin said. “So that we can get this position filled.”
