Gainesboro Purchases New Telemetry System For Wastewater Plant

Gainesboro Aldermen approved the purchase of a new telemetry system for the city’s wastewater plant Thursday night.

Wastewater Manager Chad Scott said there is currently no way to remotely monitor the city’s sewer plant. Scott said the plant’s staff have to constantly monitor things manually to avoid any issues. Town Clerk Lisa Dodson said the funds for the initial purchase of the system will come from the city itself, not the sewer department.

“It’s something new, it’s not like it’s something that we’re repairing,” Dodson said. “So it would be like an asset. It would be like something that we would add to the sewer plant to make it better.”

The system will cost the city just under $11,000 between materials and an installation fee. Water Plant Supervisor Jerry Rhoten said the new system will match the one already in use at the town’s water plant.

“The tanks, if they get low, it’ll actually call me,” Rhoten said.

“We ain’t got no alarms at the sewage plant right now,” Scott said. “No telemetry at all. If anything goes wrong, we do not know.”

Scott said there are no additional precautions for rainy weather or other situations that could cause extra trouble at the wastewater plant.

“Just hope it ain’t too full over there, you know what I’m saying?” Scott said. “Just try to catch it.”
