The Town of Gainesboro has $95,000 dollars to begin improving downtown facades of buildings around the square.
Mayor Lloyd Williams said the city is using an application process to plan the project.
“We have a committee and people have put in their ideas about what they want to do with the outside of their building,” Williams said. “We’re taking applications because there’s certain qualifications our committee has put together.”
The state’s facade grant program helps communities revitalize their downtown buildings. The application process takes two years to complete.
The grant comes as businesses begin to reopen in Gainesboro. Williams said it was nice to be able to get back to normal.
“I think our Bull and Thistle is reopening June 5,” Williams said. “Our other restaurants are back open with social distancing with a table in between. Everyone is doing a great job right now.”
