Gainesboro Church Blessing Animals Sunday

Animal owners are invited to Gainesboro First United Methodist Church Sunday as the church will be blessing animals.

Gainesboro First United Methodist Church Pastor Dr. Joe Beavon (Rhymes with Devon) said blessing animals is actually common as it is a tradition in some United Methodist and Lutheran churches. Beavon said all animals are welcome but must be leashed, held, or in a crate. Beavon said he hopes the blessing will bring attention to the homeless pet issue in Gainesboro.

“We think by blessing the animals we are going to make people aware of the importance of animals,” Beavon said. “And by collecting these items for the rescue group will make people more aware of what’s going on in the community to help the animals.”

Beavon said the church will accept pet food and supplies donations for a local pet rescue organization. Beavon said it would be great for a pet owner to have their pet blessed as pets play an important role in our lives.

“We know that they offer great companionship to many people as pets,” Beavon said. “And they provide comfort to a lot of people and they deserve to be blessed.”

Beavon said it has been awhile since the church has blessed animals in Gainesboro. Beavon said he does not know how the event will turn out.

“We could have six we could have sixty,” Beavon said. “We don’t really know what to expect. When I’ve done this before in other towns we’ve had of course dogs and cats those are the most common, but we’ve had hamsters, guinea pigs, horses, goats, and you know just any animal that someone would like to bring.”

The Blessing of the Animals will begin at 3pm on Sunday, October 13th at the Gainesboro First United Methodist Church.
